A part of the Mahabodhi Temple, it is one of the most sacred shrines in Bodhgaya. Located towards the northern side of the temple lies the pathway which was used by Buddha during Buddha’s third week of meditation. It was at this spot that he practiced walking meditation which is also called Cankamana. Surrounding the temple are the spots where he walked and his footsteps have been carved into lotuses (made in black stone). You would often see many monks who chant in the praise of Buddha close to the pathway creating a soothing atmosphere.
