The great Saint Tulsidas has a close connection with Varanasi. It was in this holy city that he was blessed by Hanuman and by his grace had darshan of his chosen deity, Sri Ram. This place is now revered as the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir. This temple is situated near the Benares Hindu University, and is a much frequented place of worship. The Tulsi Manas Mandir is a comparatively recent temple which has the entire Ram Charit Manas written by Tulsidas inscribed on its walls. Sant Tulsidas left his mortal coil to merge with his beloved Ram on the banks of the Ganga near Asi Ghat. A new Ghat, named after him as Tulsi Ghat has been built there.
